Outplacement Services

As part of Shell’s severance package, I was provided free access to Right Managment’s outplacement services and career coaching. I was genuinely grateful for the opportunity and signed up—though I’ll admit I was not quite ready to jump into my next role just yet.

Before leaving Shell, I’d heard Right Management’s pitch and was curious to see what they could offer. Unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite match the promise. The website was clunky, the learning materials felt dated compared to platforms like LinkedIn Learning, and their job search tools were frustrating to use. While my coaches were friendly and flexible, I didn’t feel a strong connection or personal investment from them. To be fair, I’m not actively job-hunting yet, which might influence the dynamic.

The resume-writing service had a simple structure: one meeting, then a few drafts exchanged via email. I appreciated the support, but when I started applying and wasn’t getting responses, I reached out for a follow-up—and discovered the service was a one-and-done. Honestly, I’ve found ChatGPT more helpful in tailoring my resume to each job application.

While I wouldn’t personally pay for Right Management’s services, I’m still thankful to have had access to another resource during this career transition. So far, tools like LinkedIn Premium and generative AI have provided more actionable value as I prepare for what’s next.
